Referrals information

Occasionally some referrals take time to be processed subject to different hospital departments. However, if you would like information on how your referral is being processed then please follow the instructions below.

NHS eReferral Service

If your referral has been made through the eReferral Service, then you should have been given a document containing a Unique Booking Reference Number (UBRN), a unique password and a telephone number to call for advice regarding the progress of your referral.

If you have been advised to book your appointment yourself, you will need to do this via:-

NHS Referral (Referral Triage or Assessment Service)

If your referral has been made through a telephone assessment service or referral triage service, then you should have been given a document containing a Unique Booking Reference Number (UBRN), a unique password and a telephone number to call for advice regarding the progress of your referral.

With this type of referral, you will be contacted by the hospital with an appointment. If you have not heard within two weeks of referral, then you can contact the triage service using the telephone number of your referral paperwork.

NHS Fast Track Urgent Referral

If the GP has arranged for you to see a hospital doctor (specialist) urgently. This is to investigate your symptoms further. You may have some tests to find out the cause.

An urgent referral will be processed as quickly as possible and an appointment arranged for you. This should be within 2 weeks of your referral.

If you have not been contacted, within a couple of days of your referral being made, please contact the hospital appointment office.
