Nurse Practitioner Catherine Jackson
After qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in 1989 I worked in critical care, renal medicine and in industry before moving into general practice in 1997. I was a Practice Nurse for 2 years before studying for an MSc at Liverpool University. Since then I have worked in several practices in Cheshire as a Nurse Clinician. This role involves seeing people who attend the practice with acute medical problems and also people who have ongoing conditions for example high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes and COPD. I am also able to prescribe a broad range of medicines.
In my spare time I enjoy the outdoors, running and climbing, and have a little boy who keeps me busy.
Practice Nurse Sarah Wilkinson
I joined Marple Cottage Surgery in 2004. In 2002 I attained the Diploma in Nursing from Manchester University and spent 18 months working on the Trauma and Orthopaedic Unit at Stepping Hill Hospital. I moved to general practice because I wanted to work in an environment where health promotion is primary prevention and allows me to form strong patient relationships.
I am very much enjoying my role as a practice nurse in Marple. I have a keen interest in asthma and have recently completed an asthma diploma at the National Respiratory Training Centre. I manage the Practice INR Clinic, which is for patients who take Warfarin. I also perform a wide range of nursing services including cervical smears, health promotion and screening, children’s vaccinations and travel vaccinations.
